Selah: Life in a Minor Key

Feb. 26 - March 29, 2020

The season of Lent is a time of introspection and self-examination, of confession and the repentance of the brokenness of the individual soul, the community and the world. It is, as our United Methodist Book of Worship says “a forty-day season of spiritual preparation.” (BOW p.322) Music can be an impetus to the process of reflection and of repentance. Therefore we will pay special attention to the music of the season as we journey through the Lenten experience. We want to do that on two fronts. We will start with the Psalms of the season and will use them as the Word proclaimed as well as the tune sung. Each psalm will help us determine a mood and a tone for the act of worship. Alongside each psalm will be a selection from the vast collection of spirituals, that uniquely American expression of lament and hope. Music has always been shaped by our faith and in turn shapes our faith. Join us for the Lenten worship experience at either 8:30 or 11:00 every Sunday.
